For those unfamiliar when Sheldon Lavin is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of OSI Group, a premiere global food supplier. Sheldon has worked in the food processing industry for than 40 years, joining OSI in the mid 1970’s. Back then his involvement with the company was only supposed to be temporary as it was searching for financing to construct a meat processing facility to expand the meat products they provided to McDonald’s.
Lavin did so well in his short stint with the company that the owners asked him to permanently join the company as a partner. From then on, Lavin has helped it become a global corporation with dozens of facilities operational in several countries. It has facilities located in Asia, South America, and Europe. It currently has an employee base of 20,000.
Sheldon Lavin has come a long way from his time as a consultant for OSI. Just a few years after he joined the company permanently he bought a large percentage and took over operations. OSI possesses a unique culture of treating those who work within the company more like family instead of employees. This has lead to a low employees turnover rate and most employees stay with the company for years. Before he ventured into the food processing industry he boasted a successful career in finance and banking.
Sheldon Lavin is also an avid philanthropist. he has been a financial supporter of many charities and charitable initiatives. He’s contributed to the Jewish United Fund, the Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago, among others.
Sheldon Lavin is largely credited with OSI building more influence and popularity internationally, thus creating more job opportunities globally. Lavin has been the recipient of many accolades due to his work at OSI. For instance, he was given the Global Visionary Award.
