His towering 6’5” stature reflects Louis Chenevert’s career accomplishments, including his tenure as the CEO and Chairman of United Technologies Corporation (UTC) as well as his time as the General Manager at General Motors. A French native, Mr. Louis Chenevert’s relentless efforts at the Universite de Montreal, Ecole des Hautes Etudes commercials (HEC) earned him a bachelor’s degree in Production Management. He spent more than a decade working as a managing partner at General Motors before joining the Pratt & Whitney, a business unit of United Technologies Corporation.
Having worked at Pratt & Whitney for six years, he was appointed the President in 1999 and held this position for seven years before joining UTC as the President and CEO. Over time, Mr. Louis Chenevert built an impressive profile as the President and CEO of the conglomerate, worth close to $100 billion. Only a few managers have achieved what Chenevert achieved within a year. While at UTC, Louis Chenevert spent close to a year negotiating for the acquisition of Goodrich, a deal worth $18.4 billion. At UTC, Louis Chenevert would not only invest in the most advanced technology but also qualified personnel.
Upon signing up as the President and CEO of UTC, Louis Chenevert’s mission was to use his experience and knowledge to develop UTC and leave it far better than he found it. He often emphasized on the need of investing in the right technology and people. Mr. Louis Chenevert stepped down as the CEO and President of UTC in 2014 and was replaced by the lead independent director, Edward Kangas. Shortly after his resignation, Chenevert was appointed Exclusive Advisor at Goldman Sachs’ Merchant Banking Division. His sole mission was to seek growth opportunities in the aerospace industry.
